# Safety, privacy and who the service is for

**Bottom line:** Mytherapist.ng is for adults aged 18 and over, and it is not an emergency service. Anyone in immediate danger in Nigeria should call 112, or 767 in Lagos, and anyone who needs to talk at any hour can call Safe Place Nigeria on 0800 800 2000. Sessions are confidential, within the limits set out in the privacy policy, and every therapist is reviewed by a person before users can book them.

## Not an emergency service

Sessions on Mytherapist.ng are booked in advance, and the support chat in the app is not an emergency service. If someone may be in danger, do not wait for a session or a support reply.

## Who the service is for

- The live terms of use say the app is intended for users aged 18 and over, and that people under 18 may not access or use it.
- Mytherapist.ng serves people in Nigeria and Nigerians living abroad, with therapy by video, voice or chat.

## Confidentiality

- What a user and their therapist say in a session is confidential.
- Nobody at Mytherapist.ng joins, watches or listens to a session.
- Screenshots are blocked on the session and chat screens in the app.
- Support staff cannot read a user's journal or mood entries.
- A user's mood log and journal entries are shared with their therapist only if the user chooses to share them.

### Limits to confidentiality

The privacy policy says Mytherapist.ng may share personal data when the law requires it (for example a court order or legal investigation), in connection with legal proceedings, or where it is reasonably necessary to protect the safety of the public or of users. It also says Mytherapist.ng does not sell users' personal information. For the full wording, read the [privacy policy](https://mytherapist.ng/privacy) and the [terms](https://mytherapist.ng/terms).

### When an employer or HMO pays

A session covered by an employer, HMO or other organisation is billed to that organisation's plan. To bill an HMO, Mytherapist.ng confirms the user's cover with the HMO using the enrollee ID the user enters. Session content stays between the user and the therapist. See [Mytherapist.ng for Business](https://mytherapist.ng/product/business.md) and [For HMOs and their members](https://mytherapist.ng/product/hmos.md).

## Booking anonymously

Users can choose to book a session anonymously. This adds ₦500 to the booking, and the charge is waived for Mytherapist.ng Prime members. Anonymous booking is not available when a session is billed to an HMO, because the HMO needs the user's real details to confirm cover.

## How therapists are vetted

- Therapists apply in the Caregiver App or on the web dashboard at partners.mytherapist.ng.
- A person at Mytherapist.ng reviews every application. Users cannot find or book a therapist until the application is approved.
- Therapists add each qualification they hold (a degree, licence or certification) and upload proof. The Mytherapist.ng team checks each one, and verified qualifications show a verified badge on the therapist's profile.
- The Caregiver App has onboarding training for therapists: short guides, each with a quiz.

See [For therapists](https://mytherapist.ng/product/therapists.md) for the full process.

## Ratings, reports and complaints

- After a session is completed, the user is asked to rate it.
- Users can report a therapist from the therapist's profile in the app. Reports go to the Mytherapist.ng team for review.
- Therapists can see complaints recorded against them on an Account Standing page in the web dashboard, and can appeal them.
- The terms let Mytherapist.ng moderate ratings and feedback.
- For any other concern, use the in-app support chat or [mytherapist.ng/contact-us](https://mytherapist.ng/contact-us).

## Data protection

- The company behind the service, Mytherapist.ng Mental Healthcare Solutions Limited, is registered with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) as a data controller, registration number NDPC/DCP/14796.
- The privacy policy lists users' rights to withdraw consent, to object to processing, to have their data deleted and to have it transferred.
- Users can delete their account in the app from the Profile section. The privacy policy says the account and personal information are deleted within 7 days.
- Therapists cannot delete their own account in the app; they ask support to close it.
- Questions about privacy can go to the team through [mytherapist.ng/contact-us](https://mytherapist.ng/contact-us).

## Health content on the website

Some condition guides and blog articles on the website are published before a clinician has reviewed them. Those pages say so in a note: they are based on published research and health guidelines and are awaiting clinical review. No reviewer is named until a review has happened. This content is general information, not a diagnosis or a treatment plan.

The free self-assessments on the website and in the app are screening tools. They do not diagnose a condition.
