Favour's story about sitting with other people during their hardest moments simply began as a young curious teenager. One commuting on a road with her mother, who saw a man maintain same position, to and fro on the journey, for hours on stretch. During her undergraduate training, she would come to know the condition as catatonic schizophrenia. Somewhere between her national service at a federal neuropsychiatric hospital, it just became clear this was the work she was meant to do. She graduated top of her class from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, and she's spent more than three years working in inpatient psychiatric care and EAP services (mental health) for prominent organizations. Her clinical style leans on CBT, ACT and DBT but honestly speaking, frameworks are just tools to her. What she truely cares about is whether you feel seen and understood. She's led group sessions on distress tolerance, relapse prevention, guilt and shame (every conversation that people shy away from but matters the most). And because she's Nigerian and works mostly with Nigerian clients, she pays close attention to the things that don't always get named out loud - societal pressure, worrying, perfectionism, high functioning despite the poor state of one's emotions, provider expectations, comparisons culminating into grief, anxiety, depression, PTSD, poor coping skills, etc. She's not a therapist who nods along and simply hands you a worksheet. She'll ask the question you were hoping to avoid. She's also, for what it's worth, a writer. If you're looking for any therapist, perhaps she's not the best fit. But if you seek someone who cares deeply with a genuine curiosity and will treat what you're going through as "human yet complicated" rather than "simple", that's probably her.
