Pay for someone’s therapy

Pay for someone’s therapy, and leave the rest to them.

If a parent, partner or friend needs a therapist and money is what is in the way, you can cover their sessions up to an amount you set each month. They pick the therapist and book when they are ready. You get a statement of what you paid, and nothing about what was said.

What you get

How sponsoring works for you

Many people want to pay for a relative’s therapy and worry about overstepping. Sponsoring keeps you in charge of the money and out of the therapy.

A monthly limit you set

Decide how much you will pay in a month. Their sessions come out of it until it is used up, and it starts again on the 1st.

Their choice of therapist

They browse, book and talk to whoever they choose. You are not told who that is.

A statement, not a report

Your statement shows the date and the amount of each session, like "Session for Ada (sponsored)". It leaves out the therapist, the time and what was said.

Ends when either of you says so

You or they can end it from the app at any time, and nothing more is charged. If a session is cancelled, the money comes back to you.

How it works

How to set it up

  1. Create a free account

Sign up on app.mytherapist.ng. You will find Sponsoring under Profile; you do not have to book anything yourself.

  2. Send the offer

Type their email, or make a link to send them on WhatsApp. Add a message if you want. Then set your monthly limit and how you will pay: your wallet, a card, or a bank mandate that tops the wallet up for you.

  3. They accept

They open the invite, sign in or create an account, and accept. An email invite only works from that address. A link works for whoever opens it first. Either kind stays open for 7 days.

  4. They book, you pay

When they book, they pick you as the way to pay, and the session comes out of that month’s limit. On the 1st you get a short statement of what you paid.

From abroad

Paying from abroad

If you live outside Nigeria and someone at home is having a hard year, you can set this up without waiting for them to ask. You set the limit once. They book when they are ready, in English, Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa or Pidgin, from their phone.

You pay in naira, by card or from your Mytherapist.ng wallet, and the statement on the 1st tells you what went where. If your card is declined, a bank transfer into your wallet works instead.

Invites stay open for 7 days.Nothing is charged until they accept and book their first session. If they let it lapse, send another when the time is right.
