Individual Therapy (or Individual Counseling) is a one-on-one therapeutic setting where a mental health professional (e.g., psychologist, counselor) works directly with a client to explore feelings, thoughts, behaviors, and goals.

  • Approaches & Modalities: Can include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, and more, tailored to the client’s needs.
  • Benefits: Privacy, focused time on personal issues, a safe environment for emotional expression, and tailored interventions.
  • Session Structure: Usually 45–60 minutes per session, once a week or as needed, with confidentiality (except in cases of risk to self/others or mandatory reporting).
