For therapists
These guides are for therapists and trainees in Nigeria: routes into the profession, licensing and CPD, private practice, setting fees and working online.
There's no single government licence to practise therapy in Nigeria. Counsellors now register with the Counselling Practitioners Council of Nigeria, created under a 2022 Act, and its registration system is only just starting. Psychiatrists register with the MDCN, and psychologists, so far, only with professional associations. Burnout is a real risk in the helping professions, and it usually stays invisible until it's severe.
Start with how to become a therapist in Nigeria and licensing and CPD for therapists. If you already practise, read how to build a private practice.
If you're a licensed therapist, you can apply to join Mytherapist.ng in the Caregiver App or from our page for therapists, and a person reviews every application. Our step-by-step guide shows how to apply.
