Mental health care should be accessible and affordable. If you’re covered by an HMO, you may be able to have your therapy sessions on Mytherapist.ng paid for by your health plan — and for supported HMOs, you can now do the whole thing inside the app, at ₦0 out of pocket. This guide shows you how to book with your HMO, how to check your coverage, and what to do if your HMO isn’t supported yet.
Book with your HMO right in the app
If your scheme is supported — AllyHMO today, with more on the way — your HMO is simply a payment option at checkout. No forms, no phone calls, no paying and claiming back.
Step 1 — Pick your therapist and time
Browse therapists and choose a time as you normally would. One rule to know: HMO-billed sessions must start at least 24 hours from now, so there’s time to confirm your cover with your HMO. Same-day slots can’t be billed to a health plan.
Step 2 — Choose “My HMO” at the payment step
On the Confirm booking screen, every way to pay is listed — Wallet, My HMO, your cards. Tap My HMO.

A picker opens with the supported schemes. Tap yours.

Step 3 — Enter your enrollee ID
Type the enrollee ID from your HMO card — it’s how your HMO finds your plan when we contact them. The app remembers it for next time.
Notice what happens to the price: the footer reads “You pay today: ₦0.00” with the session price struck through, and the button becomes “Reserve with AllyHMO” — because nothing is charged to you. Not now, not later.

One trade-off to know: anonymous booking isn’t available with HMO billing, because your HMO needs your real details to confirm your plan.
Step 4 — Reserve, and we handle the rest
Tap Reserve and your slot is held — no one else can book it. Then:
- We confirm your cover with your HMO for this session. You don’t call anyone.
- You get a notification the moment it’s approved — usually within a day. Your session then goes ahead like any other, over video, voice or chat.
- If your HMO can’t confirm in time, we cancel the session before it starts and tell you straight away so you can rebook with your wallet or card. Since no money ever left your account, there’s nothing to refund.

You can watch the status on the appointment itself — an amber “Awaiting AllyHMO confirmation” banner while we confirm, turning green once your cover is approved.

What if my HMO isn’t supported yet?
You don’t have to wait quietly — and you don’t have to do the chasing alone anymore.
Request it from the app. On the payment screen, open My HMO and tap “My HMO isn’t listed.” Tell us your HMO’s name, your enrollee ID, and — if you have them — your HMO’s claims email or phone (usually on the back of your card). Then two things happen:
- We email your HMO directly, letting them know one of their enrollees wants to use their plan for therapy, and invite them to set it up with us.
- You get an email with next steps, including a short script for calling your HMO’s claims line yourself. HMOs listen to their members — a two-minute call from you moves this faster than anything we can send.
The moment your HMO goes live, you’ll get an email that you can book with it. And your request doesn’t just help you — it helps everyone else on your plan.
If you’d rather advocate directly, it’s well within your rights as a member: call your HMO’s customer support, ask for therapy sessions on Mytherapist.ng to be covered under your plan, and point them to [email protected] to discuss integration. The more members who ask, the faster it happens.
Take charge of your mental health
Your mental well-being matters, and paying for therapy should be the easiest part. If your HMO is supported, your next session is a few taps away at ₦0 out of pocket. If it isn’t yet, send the request — you’ll be the reason it’s covered for everyone on your plan.
