Student life and a tight budget tend to come as a package deal, and therapy is usually one of the first things to get cut. So we’ve made the student discount on Mytherapist.ng much easier to claim: if your school gave you an email address, you’re about two minutes away from cheaper sessions.
For a long time, proving you were a student meant digging out your ID card or admission letter, taking a photo of it that wasn’t blurry, uploading it, and then waiting a few days while someone on our team reviewed it. That route still exists, and it works. But plenty of students never got around to it, and honestly, we get it.
Now there’s a shortcut. If your school email ends in .edu.ng, .edu or .university, that address is all the proof you need. We send a code to it, you type the code into the app, and the discount is yours. No documents, no waiting, nobody reviewing anything.
The short version: open the Profile tab, tap Student discount, choose Verify with your student email, and enter the code we send you. That’s the whole process.
Which route should you take?
There are two ways to verify, and they end in exactly the same place.
If you have a school email — use the instant route. Two minutes, start to finish, and your discount is active before you’ve closed the app.
If you don’t — upload a student ID, admission letter or school-fees receipt instead. Our team reviews it within a few days and you’ll see your status change in the app. Slower, but the same discount at the end.
Where to find it
The quickest way in is the Profile tab: scroll to your account list and tap Student discount.
You’ll also bump into it in two other places:
- On the home screen — the “Access student discounts” card under Guides & How To’s.
- On a therapist’s profile — if a therapist offers a student rate, the price card says so. Not verified yet? It’ll read “Are you a student? Tap to verify and unlock.” Tap it and you’re in the flow.
There’s also the long way round — Profile → Edit profile → Student ID tab — which is where the programme’s benefits are listed and where your verification status lives once you’re done.
Verifying with your school email
However you arrive, you’ll be asked how you’d like to verify. Pick Verify with your student email — the green card with the Instant badge.
Fill in your school, department, current year and expected graduation year, then type in your school email address. The app checks the address as you go — it has to end in .edu.ng, .edu or .university for this route.
Tap Send Code, then go check that inbox. Look for an email called “Verify Your Student Email” — the code inside works for five minutes. Type it into the app and it verifies on its own the moment you enter the last digit.
Can’t find the email? Give it a minute, then check spam. Once the countdown on screen runs out, the Resend link wakes up and you can request a fresh code.
And… that’s it
No queue, no review, no “we’ll get back to you.” The moment your code checks out, your student profile is active — you can see it any time on the Student ID tab:
What you actually get
- Student rates from therapists on the programme. Each therapist sets their own — some sessions are discounted by half, and some qualify for up to 100% off. Use the Student Discount filter when browsing to find them, and you’ll see the student price on the profile before you book.
- Student-only perks and merch, from time to time.
- A shot at representing Mytherapist.ng on your campus, if that’s your thing.
Your student status lasts 12 months. After that you just verify again — people do graduate, after all.
A few things worth knowing
- Only school-issued addresses work for the instant route. Your personal Gmail won’t, no matter how student-y it feels.
- One school email can only ever verify one account, and you need access to the inbox to get the code.
- Codes expire after five minutes, and there’s a sensible limit on how many you can request in an hour.
- Your school details are only used to run the student programme, and the email we send contains nothing but the code. More in our privacy policy.
Questions you might have
My school’s email doesn’t end in .edu.ng, .edu or .university. Am I stuck?
Not stuck — just take the document route. Upload your student ID, admission letter or school-fees receipt and our team will review it within a few days.
Is the discount applied automatically when I book?
Your verified status unlocks the student rates therapists have set. You’ll see the student price on a therapist’s profile before you book — there’s no code to enter at checkout.
How big is the discount?
It varies by therapist. Each one sets their own student rate, and the exact price (and how much you’re saving) is shown on their profile.
The code never came. Now what?
Spam folder first. Then let the countdown finish and tap Resend. If it still won’t arrive, message support from the app and we’ll sort it out.
Can I use my friend’s school email?
No. One email verifies one account, and you’d need their inbox to get the code anyway.
What happens after 12 months?
Your status expires and prices go back to normal. Still a student? Verify again — same two minutes.
Go get your discount
Profile tab → Student discount → verify with your school email. Two minutes, and therapy gets noticeably cheaper.
