Suicide prevention and crisis support

If you're thinking about ending your life, call Safe Place Nigeria on 0800 800 2000 or 112 (767 in Lagos); all the numbers are on our helplines page. These articles are for anyone having thoughts of suicide or self-harm, and for people worried about someone else. They cover the warning signs, how to ask the question, and how to make a safety plan.

Safe Place Nigeria is toll-free and answered 24 hours a day, and Lagos Lifeline also takes calls at any hour from anywhere in Nigeria. If you're worried about someone, the most useful thing you can do is often the hardest: ask them directly whether they're thinking about suicide. Asking doesn't put the idea in their head. Then listen without judging, help them reach support and check in again.

Start with our guide to suicidal thoughts, how to ask about suicide, or making a safety plan on a calmer day.

Mytherapist.ng isn't an emergency service, and no therapist is on call. For ongoing support that you book ahead, licensed therapists who work with suicidal thoughts offer sessions by video, voice or chat.
