How to choose the right therapist

Browse by specialty, read profiles, check the price and response time, and switch therapists later with no penalty.

Updated 9 October 20262 min readBy the Mytherapist.ng support team

Open the Therapy tab, tap Featured Therapists → View More, and read a few profiles. Start with someone whose focus areas match what is on your mind. If the first therapist is not the right fit, you can book someone else next time at no penalty.

Where to look

  • Browse everyone from Featured Therapists → View More.
  • Search by name or by specialty, for example "anxiety", "relationships" or "grief".
  • Browse by Specialty to narrow down to one concern.
  • On the website, see the therapist directory.

Each therapist card shows their name, focus areas, rating and price per session.

What a profile tells you

Tap a therapist to open their profile. You will see:

  • A Verified therapist badge. Every therapist is vetted and licensed.
  • Years of experience and their typical response time.
  • About, qualifications and languages spoken.
  • Their price per session.

When you are ready, tap Book a session.

Tips for choosing

  1. Match the therapist to your concern, not just the price. Fit matters more than a few naira.
  2. Check the languages spoken if you would rather talk in a language other than English.
  3. Look at the response time. It tells you how quickly the therapist usually replies.
  4. Each therapist sets their own price, so if budget matters, compare a few profiles. Students get a discount, see Student discount.
  5. For couples therapy, search "relationships" or "couples". Only some therapists accept couples, and you will see at booking whether With my Partner is available. See Book a couples therapy session.
  6. Pick a future date. Many therapists do not offer same-day sessions.

Switching therapists

Changing therapists is normal, and there is no penalty. Book a different therapist next time; your previous therapist is not told. If you still have a pending booking with the old therapist that you no longer want, cancel it first. A cancellation fee applies, see Cancel a session.

Ready? See Book a therapy session.
