5 licensed therapists for eating disorders and body image
Licensed therapists for eating that feels out of control or rigidly controlled, and for a relationship with your body that has taken over your life. Sessions by video, voice or chat.
Focused support
Eating disorders are not a foreign problem, whatever you have been told. Binge eating in secret and the shame after. Skipping meals and counting everything. Making yourself sick. Slimming teas, detox, and a body you check in every mirror and never approve of. Bleaching, or the constant comparison to what is on your feed. In Nigeria it hides inside she is just slim, he is just big, and food cultures where refusing a plate is an insult. The therapists here understand that context.
Sessions are inside the Mytherapist.ng app, by video, voice or chat, and many people prefer not to be seen on camera at first; that is fine. You book and pay in the app. Eating disorders affect the body, so your therapist will ask about your physical health and may ask you to see a doctor alongside therapy, especially if your weight has dropped or you are purging.
This page suits people who binge, restrict or purge, people whose eating looks normal but whose body image rules their mood and choices, people recovering from an eating disorder who need support to stay well, and parents or partners who are worried about someone and want to know what to do. It also suits anyone whose relationship with food got worse with stress, loss or a breakup.
A first session covers your eating, how you feel about your body, what it is costing you, and your physical health, without weighing you or lecturing you. You and your therapist then agree where to start. Browse the therapists below to compare backgrounds and rates.
Each therapist below is licensed and verified. Read their background and rates, then book by video, voice or chat.

Good to know
No. Most people with eating disorders are not underweight, and binge eating disorder, the most common one, usually comes with a higher weight. The disorder is in the relationship with food and the body, not on the scale. If eating or body image takes up a lot of your thinking, that is reason enough to talk to someone.
Usually CBT adapted for eating disorders (CBT-E): regular eating, understanding the binge-restrict cycle, working on the thoughts about weight and shape, and dealing with what food has been managing for you, such as stress or feelings. Expect a food diary and gradual changes, not a diet.
Yes. Body dysmorphic disorder, where a small or invisible flaw takes over your life, responds to CBT that reduces checking, comparing and hiding, and changes how you relate to the mirror. Our post on body dysmorphia describes the signs.
Yes, with one limit. What you tell your therapist stays between you. The exception is a risk to life: if your therapist believes there's a real and immediate risk of serious harm to you or to someone else, including a child, they may need to act on it. That can mean contacting emergency services or someone who can reach you. They'll tell you when they're doing this, wherever it's safe to.
Possibly. If you have lost a lot of weight, faint, purge often or have other physical symptoms, your therapist will ask you to see a doctor for a check-up and blood tests, and will work alongside them. The therapists here do not prescribe medication.
Each therapist sets their own rate, from ₦7,500 a session. Some therapists offer a student rate or a free first consultation, and it shows on their profile below.
