Why see a therapist who focuses on mindfulness and somatic therapy

Some problems do not respond to more thinking. Anxiety that lives in a clenched jaw and shallow breath, trauma that the body remembers when the mind has moved on, a head that replays every conversation, or stress that has turned into tension you no longer notice. Mindfulness-based and somatic therapies work there: with attention, breathing, the senses and the body's signals, so you can be present instead of braced. The therapists on this page are licensed professionals who use these approaches within proper therapy, not instead of it.

These approaches work well online. Sessions happen inside the Mytherapist.ng app, by video, voice or chat, with short practices during the session and a few minutes a day between them. You book and pay in the app. Nothing here requires a particular religion; mindfulness is attention training, and it sits comfortably alongside prayer or none.

This page suits people who have tried talking therapy and still feel it in their body, people with stress, anxiety or trauma who want practical tools for the moment, people whose minds race at night, and anyone drawn to a quieter, slower way of working. It is less suited to someone in a crisis, or to someone who wants a structured, goal-led course, which CBT therapists here offer.

A first session is gentle: what brought you, how stress shows up in your body, and a short practice to try, so you know what the work feels like before you commit. Browse the therapists below to compare backgrounds and rates.

Questions people ask about mindfulness and somatic therapy

What is mindfulness-based therapy?

Therapy that trains you to notice thoughts, feelings and body sensations as they happen, without being swept away by them. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) are the best-known forms, with good evidence for stress, anxiety and preventing depression from returning. You practise in sessions and for a few minutes each day.

What is somatic therapy?

Therapy that works through the body: noticing where tension, fear or grief sit, using breath, grounding and movement to settle the nervous system, and releasing what talk alone cannot reach. It is used especially for trauma and chronic stress. The therapist guides you; nothing physical happens between you, and online it works through your own attention to your body.

Is mindfulness against my religion?

No. Mindfulness as used in therapy is attention training, not a religious practice. Christians and Muslims use it alongside prayer, and your therapist can keep it entirely secular. If that matters to you, say so when you book.

Is it confidential?

Yes, with one limit. What you tell your therapist stays between you. The exception is a risk to life: if your therapist believes there's a real and immediate risk of serious harm to you or to someone else, including a child, they may need to act on it. That can mean contacting emergency services or someone who can reach you. They'll tell you when they're doing this, wherever it's safe to.

How much does it cost?

Each therapist sets their own rate, from ₦15,000 a session. Some therapists offer a student rate or a free first consultation, and it shows on their profile below.
